Yeti Airlines aircraft crashes in Pokhara Today’s morning. According to report, a total of 68 passengers and four crew members were on board the aircraft.

An ATR 72 aircraft of Yeti Airlines soared to Pokhara from Kathmandu crashed in Pokhara of Kaski district on Sunday morning.

The aircraft crashed nearly 2 kilometers from the airport of Pokhara. The aircraft crashed between the old airport and the Pokhara International Airport, Sudarshan Bartaula, spokesperson of Yeti Airlines.

As images and videos posted on social media platforms showed plumes of smoke billowing from the crash site. The rescue team reached the incident site now.

The aircraft had been cleared to land before the accident

The Yeti Air plane that crashed in Pokhara this morning was cleared to land, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.

“The weather was fine. We have preliminary information that the plane crashed for technical reasons. We have received information that flames were visible in the sky.”

There were 4 crew members and 68 passengers on board the aircraft. The aircraft was piloted by Senior Capt. Kamal KC and Capt. Anju Katiwada. Eight of them were foreigners and 60 of them were Nepalese, officials said. There were 62 adults, 3 children, and 3 people with disabilities on board.

The nationalities of the passengers of Pokhara’s plane crash identified now.

According to the Tribhuvan International Airport office, there were 72 passengers including 4 crew members in the accident. Out of which 53 were Nepali, 5 Indians, 4 from Russia, one from Ireland, two from Korea, one from Argentina, one from Australia and one from France.

Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ twitted ‘ I am deeply saddened by the sad and tragic accident of Yeti Airline ANC ATR 72 which was flying to Pokhara from Kathmandu today. I kindly appeal to the security personnel, all agencies of the Nepal Government and the general piblic to start an effective rescue and response .”

During 30 years time period, around 30 fatal plane crashes in Nepal. Before today plane cashes, Tara Air crash in May 2022 and killed 22 people.
