It is a subsidiary of Texas Roadhouse Inc, which is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. Texas Roadhouse has the 611 chains to provide services to customers (as of March 2021). Out of them, a total of 49 are in U.S. states and 28 international locations in 10 countries. It is popular for its free buckets of peanuts and free dinner bread rolls with honey cinnamon butter for customers.

Texas Roadhouse was established on February 17, 1993 at the Greentree Mall in Clarksville, Indiana. The founder W. Kent Taylor lives in Colorado and works in nightclubs and restaurants there. When Taylor returned to his hometown of Louisville in 1990, he began to serve as the manager of KFC. Former Kentucky Governor John Y. Brown, Jr. supported Taylor with $80,000 and helped him realize his dream. In 1991, Taylor opened the Buckhead Pecan Grill, which eventually became the Buckhead Mountain Grill. Taylor is his own executive chef. Brown invested more money and wanted to open a second store in Clarksville, but the complex problems in the partnership made it a failure.

Brown chose to pursue another steak concept without Taylor, which made Taylor decide to continue working on Buckhead or try to start a new business. He decided to go for the latter, however he found it difficult to find investors to help him launch new concepts. Taylor was rejected by many potential investors and found himself doubting that his new concept was wrong. In the end, Taylor, through Scott Canfield (Scott Canfield) during Buckhead’s tenure, met someone who seemed interested in investing. Dr. John Rhodes became interested in the proposal for a new barbecue concept that Taylor showed him through drawings on paper and cocktail napkins. In 1992, Taylor convinced Dr. Rod and several of his colleagues to invest $ 100,000 each. A year later, in 1993, the first Texas Roadhouse opened in Clarksville, Indiana. In 1994, Taylor sold his stake in Buckhead Mountain Grill to focus on Roadhouse in Texas.

In 1993, the second Texas Roadhouse opened in Gainesville, Florida. In 1994, three more restaurants were opened in Cincinnati, Ohio, Clearwater, Florida, and Sarasota, Florida. All three locations will be closed due to lack of strong management, poor location of buildings and poor food quality. Kent Taylor was forced to decide how to continue to succeed in the first two restaurants in Clarksville and Gainesville, while fighting the failure of three new restaurants. Taylor decided that better training in store, architectural design and restaurant decoration would help promote the growth of Roadhouse. Taylor also hired a promising chef named Jim Broyce who worked in Louisville, Kentucky. Broyles was hired as Director of Food and Beverage, and he changed the way Roadhouse prepares and serves food. The chain expanded rapidly in the late 1990s, and by the end of 1999, 67 restaurants had been opened. In 2004, Roadhouse became a public company. In September 2011, Texas Roadhouse began its international expansion, opening its first international branch in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

In April 2020, CEO Kent Taylor announced that during the coronavirus pandemic, he will be exempted from basic wages and bonuses for the remainder of the calendar year to pay “frontline” employees. Taylor’s donation will be slightly less than US$1 million.

Taylor committed suicide on March 18, 2021 at the age of 65 after battling extreme tinnitus caused by complications of COVID19. His family confirmed this through a Facebook post. It was also announced that Jerry Morgan, a former regional partner with 20 years of experience, will take over as president and CEO.
